Over 35 Football Competition

MACROOM GAA in association with MACROOM MUSIC FESTIVAL 2026

are proud to announce that we are hosting an Over 35 Gaelic Football Tournament which is to be held on Saturday the 8th of August 2026. The Music Festival is running all weekend and promises to be a fun-filled event with something for everyone.

The Macroom Music Festival is being held in the historic Castle Grounds and there are music events on Friday, Saturday and Sunday with many exciting acts already lined up. There will be live entertainment throughout the weekend.

There is an U8 – U10 Girls LGFA Blitz on the Saturday morning in the Castle Grounds, an Over 35 Gaelic Football 7-A-Side Tournament on Saturday afternoon in both the Castle Grounds and Tom Creedon Park and there is a Gaelic 4 Mothers & Others 7-A-Side Football Blitz on Sunday afternoon in the Castle Grounds.

Refreshments will be provided in the Castle Grounds before, during and after all GAA events for all participating teams and their supporters. We would encourage all adult participants and supporters of the above GAA/LGFA competitions to make the most of the weekend and come along to Macroom Music Festival and join in the fun.

Prizes: €500 for winning team & €200 for runners-up

Fees: €120 per team

Presentation will take place in the Castle Grounds on the conclusion of the final.
There will be refreshments available in the Castle Grounds for all involved.

OFFICIAL COMPETITION RULES

Squads:

Players turning 35 in 2026 are eligible.
Teams are 7-a-side, panel of up to 12 players which must be submitted to Organising Committee ahead of tournament.
Only 12 players may be togged out.

All players must be registered members of a GAA club to ensure that they are adequately insured. Macroom GAA cannot accept any responsibility for unregistered players. Teams may be asked to provide proof of registration/membership for their players.

Games:

All group games will be 14 minutes (2 x 7 mins). Final will be 16 minutes (2 x 8 mins). Half time break will be 5 minutes.

Pitch Dimensions:

Pitch will be from 20m line to opposite 20m line or of a similar size.

Playing Rules:

7-a-side including 1 goalkeeper at all times.
Full size goals.
Rolling unlimited substitutions.
Substitutions may be made at any time without notifying the referee provided the oncoming/departing player makes no attempt to play the ball or interfere with play.
Black card – 5 min sin bin.
Red card – Suspension to be determined by the Organising Committee.
Goalkeepers can take kick-outs from their hands.
45’s permitted from the hands.
There is no mark or 2-point arc in operation in this competition.
All other standard GAA rules apply.

Group Tables, Qualification, Draws, etc.:

2 points for a win
1 point for a draw

The teams finishing top of Group A and Group B qualify for the final.
Where teams are level on points, the following will determine who progresses:

  • Head-to-head result of their game (If two teams involved)

  • Scoring difference (subtracting the total Scores Against from total Scores For)

  • Most scored (Total Score)

  • Most goals scored

  • Least goals conceded

In the event of a draw in the final, eight minutes extra time will be played (2x4mins).

If a draw still results after extra time, game will proceed to penalties.

  • Best of 5 penalties (Anyone of the 12 panellists can take a penalty)

  • Sudden death if tied after 5 penalties

  • No repeat penalty takers until penalty number 13


Specific co-operation is required as follows:

Name and contact details for the manager of each team to be provided to Organising Committee in advance of the tournament.

Please try to ensure that all games begin on time.

Do not encroach on the pitch during matches and respect the decisions of the match officials.

Participation and fun rather than “Win at all Costs” is the objective of this competition.

It is expected that good sportsmanship will prevail throughout the competition.

Abusive or bad language will not be tolerated.
